Katherine was allegedly taught by Thomas Saunders (described as a yeoman), his wife Elizabeth, and her own mother, to "counterfeite and fayne her selfe [to] be bewitched and possessed with an evill spirite, and to counterfeite and fayine certaine strange fitts and traunce."
